The Common Stove is located in the beautifully renovated Swinton Building, initially built as a furniture showroom back in 1913. The space is now a bustling restaurant with multiple semi-private and fully-private event layout options: from a venue buyout for guestlists up to 70 people, to semi-private bookings of just the dining space, or alternatively just Swinton's Bar for up to 30 of your nearest and dearest. Common Stove's newest covered outdoor option, Swinton's Speakeasy, is a year-round, half-in-half-out option, in the tunnel connecting Mississaga Street to the rear public parking lot. With a beautiful breeze in the summer or by the flame of their natural gas heaters in the winter, it is truly a unique option for private functions in the Simcoe area. Built around a wood-fired grill, cooking locally sourced meats & vegetables, their farm-to-table ethos focuses on local growers. The Common Stove is a place to gather for good spirits, community & conviviality.
Just down the road from the Common Stove is the sister restaurant, Picnic. Part old-world tapas bar, part old-town grocer and plenty of good old-fashioned fun. Chef Joel's cuisine is inspired by the tapas bars of the Basque country (Southern France & Northern Spain) with a focus on seafood, preserved meats and raw foods. With event space for intimate affairs of up to 30 people, this eclectic take on modern eats is the perfect space for your most personal of celebrations.
